If you can’t bring Amtrak to Des Moines, you might as well bring Des Moines to Amtrak. Amtrak is partnering with Arrow Stage Lines to provide a bus connection between Des Moines and the Amtrak stop in Osceola for the holiday season. The connections are available Dec. 18 to 20, and Jan. 11 to 13. The California Zephyr line that travels through Osceola connects to Chicago to the east and to the San Francisco area to the West, with stops in Omaha and Denver along the way. Rail advocates have pushed to get a passenger rail line to Des Moines, but a federal funding opportunity has been stalled in the Iowa Legislature. More information on the holiday bus service to Osceola can be found online.
